Free Georgia Pe Comity Application Template in PDF
The Georgia Professional Engineer Comity Application is a comprehensive document designed for engineers seeking to practice in Georgia through the principle of comity, or reciprocity, with other states. Individuals who have already been licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in another jurisdiction can apply for a Georgia PE license without having to undergo the examination process again, provided their qualifications meet Georgia's standards. This application encompasses a wide array of information, starting with the $70 non-refundable application fee and encompassing details regarding additional licenses, method of license acquisition, personal information such as social security number, date of birth, and contact details, alongside professional affiliations. It delves further into the legal and professional background of the applicant, investigating any past convictions, licensure revocations, or misconduct in professional practice. Moreover, the form requires detailed documentation of the applicant's education, licensure history, including where and when they were first licensed as a PE, examinations taken, and current registrations in other states. Applicants who are holders of the NCEES Record have a streamlined process since they are exempt from submitting individual endorsements, exam verifications, or transcripts, making their application process slightly less laborious. The document concludes with a solemn affirmation by the applicant regarding the truthfulness of the information provided and adherence to state laws and regulations, underscored by a notary public's certification. This rigorous application process underscores Georgia's commitment to ensuring that only qualified professionals practice engineering within its borders, maintaining high standards of safety, ethics, and professional conduct.

Guide to Using Georgia Pe Comity Application
Filling out the Georgia PE Comity Application is an essential step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer in Georgia through the comity (reciprocity) process. This streamlined approach is designed for engineers who are already licensed in another state and wish to practice in Georgia. Before you begin, gather all required documents, including proof of your original licensure as a Professional Engineer, any existing NCEES records, college transcripts, and documentation of your work experience. Ensure you have access to a printer and a scanner, as you will need to print the completed form for notarization before submission, and scan any supporting documents that are required as part of your application package.
- Start by paying the $70 non-refundable application fee, which is a prerequisite for processing your application.
- Under "License Type," check the box for "PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER" to specify the type of license you’re applying for.
- If you have additional licenses issued by Georgia Professional Licensing Boards, list them under "Additional License Types."
- Select "Comity" as the method obtained for the license you are applying for.
- Fill in your name as you desire it to appear on your license and if different, also provide the name as shown on your exam records or transcripts.
- Provide your Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and both Physical and Mailing Addresses (Note: P.O. Boxes are not accepted for Physical Address).
- Enter your contact information including Telephone Day, Telephone Evening, and E-Mail Address. Add your affiliation details, including the name and address of your firm.
- For Section 1, provide General Information as requested, including your preferred address, Social Security Number, Birthplace, Date of Birth, Business Phone, Home Phone, and answer all questions regarding your legal background and licensure history.
- In Section 2, detail your Registration Information, including EIT and PE Certificate Numbers, Dates of Certification, and list the states where you are currently registered as a PE.
- In Section 3, outline your Engineering Experience, including your employment history, highlighting your roles, responsibilities, and the duration of each position.
- Document your Educational Background in Section 4, including High Schools, Colleges, and Universities attended, major fields, and degrees earned. If you're an NCEES Record Holder, you can skip providing detailed transcripts.
- In Section 5, the Affidavit must be carefully read. After confirming that all information provided is accurate and abiding by Georgia's laws and regulations, sign the Affidavit in front of a Notary Public.
- Finally, review your application, make sure it's signed and notarized, and gather all the necessary supporting documents. Bundle these together and mail them to the Georgia State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors for processing.
Remember, the accuracy and completeness of your application are vital for a smooth approval process. Keep copies of all documents for your records. Once your application package is received, the board will review your qualifications to determine your eligibility for licensure in Georgia. This process can take several weeks, so be patient but keep an eye out for any correspondence from the board regarding the status of your application.

Common mistakes
Completing the Georgia PE Comity Application form requires attention to detail and a thorough understanding of the requirements. However, applicants often make mistakes that can delay or impact the success of their application. Here are the top ten mistakes to avoid:
- Not checking the box that indicates whether the applicant is applying by comity or original license. It's crucial to specify the method obtained to process the application correctly.
- Entering different names on the application without explanation. If the name on the license desired and the name on exam records or transcripts don't match because of a legal name change, applicants must provide documentation.
- Providing a P.O. Box as the physical address. The application specifically states that a P.O. Box is not acceptable for the physical address, yet this is a common oversight.
- Forgetting to list additional license types. Applicants often overlook the section that asks for any additional licenses currently or previously issued by the Georgia Professional Licensing Boards.
- Not providing endorsements or verification of licensure/exams or transcripts for non-NCEES Record Holders. The NCEES Record simplifies this process, but without it, these documents are required and often missed.
- Failing to have their signature notarized. This oversight can invalidate the entire application, as the notarized signature is crucial for verifying the applicant's identity and the integrity of the application.
- Omitting contact information for their current employer or the firm they are affiliated with. This information is essential for the application's background checks and verifications.
- Leaving the section about any previous convictions or disciplinary actions on licenses unanswered or not providing required documentation if the answer is "yes." This lack of transparency can lead to issues with the application review process.
- Incorrectly or incompletely filling out the section regarding engineering experience, including the endorsement forms that correspond to this section. Each engagement listed must be described on an endorsement form by someone familiar with the applicant's work.
- Not specifying which branch of engineering they propose to practice in Georgia. This specification is necessary for the board to evaluate if the applicant's qualifications match the requirements of the intended engineering practice area.
Avoiding these mistakes can greatly streamline the application process, leading to a smoother path toward obtaining a Professional Engineer license in Georgia.
Documents used along the form
Applying for a Professional Engineer license in Georgia through comity involves several steps and requires multiple forms and documents beyond the initial application. Each document plays a crucial role in validating the applicant's credentials and ensuring they meet the state's requirements for licensure.
- NCEES Record: This document includes a comprehensive history of the applicant's licensure, examination scores, education, and professional experience. It's particularly useful for applicants who are already licensed in another state and streamlines the comity application process.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended by the applicant are required. These documents verify the applicant's educational background, degrees earned, and that the coursework meets the Board's standards.
- Evaluation of Foreign Degree: If the applicant earned their degree outside the United States, an evaluation from an approved provider is needed. This evaluation ensures the degree meets the U.S. standards for engineering education.
- Verification of Licensure/Exams: This consists of official documents that verify the applicant's initial licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) license. It also includes verification of any licensure exams taken.
- Endorsement Forms: Applicants are required to submit endorsements from individuals familiar with their engineering experience. This includes at least three endorsements from currently active PEs. These endorsements serve as professional references attesting to the applicant's engineering competence and character.
- Documentation of Name Change (if applicable): If the applicant has undergone a legal name change since birth due to marriage, divorce, or any other reason, legal documentation of this change must be provided.
- Criminal and Disciplinary History Documentation: If the applicant has a history of criminal charges, convictions, or disciplinary actions by any licensing board, detailed documentation and explanations of these incidents must be submitted.
Collecting and submitting these documents alongside the Georgia PE Comity Application form ensures that the Georgia State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors has all the necessary information to assess the applicant's qualifications for licensure. Adhering to this comprehensive approach facilitates a smoother application process, helping applicants achieve their professional licensing goals.
Similar forms
The Application for License by Endorsement in other professional fields, such as nursing or law, shares similarities with the Georgia PE Comity Application form. Both require detailed personal information, proof of initial licensure in another state, and verification of credentials. They also necessitate acknowledgment of disciplinary actions and legal attestations to ensure the applicant's good standing and eligibility for licensure by endorsement.
Professional Certification Application forms, often used for teachers, accountants, or IT professionals seeking certification within their respective fields, mirror the structure and requirement for detailed educational and professional experience. They request transcripts, proof of prior certification or licensure, and endorsements or references from professionals within the field, emphasizing the applicant’s competency and preparedness for certification.
The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Record Application closely aligns with the Georgia application by allowing engineers to establish a comprehensive record of their professional credentials and experience for facilitating licensure across state lines. Both call for personal information, documentation of education and licensure, and a detailed summary of engineering experience, albeit NCEES offers a more standardized format for national use.
Foreign Credential Evaluation Request Forms are required for professionals who attained their degrees outside the United States and seek recognition of their qualifications in the U.S. Like the Georgia PE Comity Application, these forms require extensive documentation of the applicant’s educational background, including official transcripts and evaluations of foreign degrees, highlighting the level of detail needed to assess equivalency to U.S. standards.
The Bar Examination Application for attorneys is another document, which, like the Georgia PE Comity Application, has strict requirements for personal information, education, previous licensure, and moral character. Both applications include questions about criminal history or disciplinary actions in other professions to assess the candidate's integrity and compliance with professional standards.
Medical Licensure Application forms required by state medical boards for physicians seeking to practice medicine in a new state. These applications are parallel to the Georgia PE Comity Application in requiring detailed disclosures of medical education, residency, fellowships, licenses held in other states, and any disciplinary history. They ensure candidates meet the professional and ethical standards necessary for patient care.
Dos and Don'ts
When embarking on the journey of filling out your Georgia PE Comity Application, it’s crucial to approach the process with accuracy and attention to detail. To guide you properly, here’s a practical list of things you should and shouldn’t do:
Things You Should Do:
- Double-check all personal information for accuracy, including your name, Social Security Number, and contact details. Ensuring this information is correct is critical for the accuracy of your license and future correspondence.
- Provide a complete history of your engineering experience, education, and any previous applications to the Georgia Board. Detailed records support your qualifications for licensure.
- Include all required documentation, such as transcripts, verification of licensure/exams, and endorsements. These validate your credentials and experience, making a strong case for your application.
- Ensure your application is signed and notarized. This step is essential for the application to be considered valid and legally binding.
- Use the Preferred Address for all correspondence, ensuring you receive all notifications and communications in a timely manner.
- Contact NCEES to send your record electronically to the GA Board if applicable. This simplifies the submission of verifications and transcripts.
Things You Shouldn’t Do:
- Avoid leaving any sections incomplete. Incompleteness can delay the processing of your application or result in it being deemed invalid.
- Don’t forget to check the box regarding your legal status in the U.S., and ensure that you attach the correct legal documents as required. This is crucial for complying with legal requirements.
- Avoid using a P.O. Box for your Physical Address. The application requires a physical address to meet certain regulatory requirements.
- Don’t provide outdated contact information. Ensuring your contact details, especially your email and phone numbers, are current, helps avoid miscommunications.
- Resist the urge to submit without proofreading. Spelling mistakes or other errors can cause unnecessary delays or inaccuracies in your record.
- Don’t hesitate to provide complete disclosure on any past convictions or disciplinary actions. Being transparent can help your application process more smoothly.
Approaching the Georgia PE Comity Application with care not only reflects your professionalism but also facilitates a smoother licensure process. Paying attention to these dos and don'ts will steer you towards a successful application outcome.
Misconceptions
Applying for a Professional Engineer license in Georgia through the Comity Application often leads to misconceptions. Misunderstanding the process could delay your application or affect your chances of success. Let's clear up some common misunderstandings about this form:
Every applicant must submit transcripts and endorsements personally: Not necessarily. If you hold an NCEES Record, Georgia's Board does not require you to submit endorsements, verification of licensure/exams, or transcripts because this information is included in your NCEES Record.
The application fee is refundable if your application is not approved: The application fee of $70 is non-refundable, regardless of the application outcome. This is a standard practice across many licensing boards to cover the administrative cost of processing applications.
Physical and mailing addresses can be the same P.O. Box: The application specifically requires a physical address and will not accept a P.O. Box for this purpose. This requirement ensures that the Board has a verifiable location for the licensee.
A social security number is optional for the application: A social security number is mandatory for the application. It's used for identification purposes and is part of the requirements for most state licensing applications due to legal stipulations.
International applicants with foreign degrees do not need an evaluation: If your bachelor's degree is from outside the U.S., you must have it evaluated by an approved provider unless you indicate otherwise by sending a letter. This ensures that your education meets the Board's standards.
You can apply without specifying which branch of engineering you practice: The application requires you to specify your practice area. This information helps the Board understand your professional background and ensure you're qualified in your specific engineering discipline.
If you are licensed in another state, you don't need to complete all sections of the application: Even if you are licensed elsewhere, you must complete all relevant sections of the application. This comprehensive approach helps the Georgia Board assess your qualifications and ensure public safety.
Understanding these key points about the Georgia PE Comity Application can streamline your application process, ensuring you provide all necessary information correctly and comprehensively.
Key takeaways
When pursuing the path of becoming a Professional Engineer in Georgia through Comity, navigating the complexities of the application process can be challenging but manageable with the right understanding. Here are four key takeaways about filling out and using the Georgia PE Comity Application form:
- Diligence is Key: Every section of the application must be completed thoroughly. Paying special attention to ensuring that your names—both as desired on the license and as shown on exam records or transcripts—are accurately filled out will avoid processing delays. Remember, inconsistencies in identification could obstruct the application's progress.
- NCEES Record Holders Have a Streamlined Process: If you hold an NCEES Record, you're in luck as it exempts you from submitting endorsements, verification of licensure/exams, and transcripts individually. This means your path through sections 1 to 5 of the application is smoother. However, it is imperative to contact NCEES to have them electronically transmit your record to the Georgia Board for review. This streamlined process is designed to facilitate a more efficient verification of your credentials.
- Preparation of Support Documents: For applicants without an NCEES Record, a considerable amount of supplementary documentation is required. This includes official transcripts for each college attended, evaluations for foreign degrees, verification of original licensure, and endorsements of your work experience. Gathering these documents early and ensuring they are sent in sealed envelopes can significantly reduce the risk of delays in the application process. It's crucial to remember that some documents need to be directly sent by the issuing agencies or individuals to the Board, making early coordination essential.
- Understanding the Affidavit: The application's affidavit section is not to be overlooked. By signing it, you affirm that all provided information is accurate and that you comply with the state's laws, rules, and regulations. Moreover, it entails affirming your legal status in the United States, which is an indispensable part of the application. Failing to accurately complete this section can lead to disciplinary actions or even legal repercussions. Therefore, a careful review of this section before signing is crucial.
Engaging with the Georgia PE Comity Application process with these key takeaways in mind will prepare you for a more successful submission. It's about more than just filling out a form; it's a step towards advancing your professional engineering career in Georgia with integrity and attention to detail.
